         Contact Blog
        Wednesday, 16 April 2008
        Greetings All,

Welcome to the first ever official Contact website blog. I hope everyone here has come to learn about what God is doing in our lives and the lives of those here in Tulsa. I speak from experience when I say that being apart of the Contact family has changed my life.

My own personal journey here at Contact started in the summer of 2003 when I finished a study abroad program for the first half of the summer. My Aunt and Uncle graciously decided to have mercy on my collegiate homeless body and invited me to come live with them in Tulsa. They suggested I volunteer at this outreach church and so one morning I headed out.

I met Frank Lott that morning. We sat and chatted for a hour or so until Dee came into the office and said, "I think the building is on fire!" Sure enough there was an electrical fire going on so Frank sent me out into a neighborhood to meet a guy named Ron and a girl Tara.

I showed up and started hanging out with the kids. Ever since then I've tried my best to show up and do what I can.

I think that is probably the first and best lesson I learned at Contact. Sometimes we as Christians try to make ministering too complicated. Ministering is being a preacher in a pulpit or a big program that changes entire lives. Really just showing up and asking God to work through you is the start. I can share stories (and probably will sometime) about how just going into the neighborhood with no plan in place was the best thing. We meet people and their families and let them tell us how God is working in them.

So in short don't wait till God puts your building on fire. Get out and show up.
